Laminate floors may appear to look like wood flooring but actually they are not. Laminate floors are completely crafted by a manufacturer. They can be designed to look like anything but the most popular option is wood. However, options such as ceramic tile or slate are becoming more popular.

As far as flooring goes, laminate floors are relatively inexpensive. Laminate floors are known to be earlier to install and do well on wear and tear. Laminate floors are moisture resistant and can be installed in places that wood cannot, such as a laundry room.

Many may not know that laminate flooring was invented in 1977 by the company named Pergo who introduced it to the European market in 1984.

One key to making sure your floors turn out how you want is paying attention for the seal of North American Laminate Flooring Association (NALFA). When buying an NALFA certified floor you learn many things. Such as your floor will be installed without glue. This is good for the people within your home because the glue will not harm the air. It also means the product is recyclable and conforms to all formadehyde emission.

Many people to not fully understand laminate flooring. There are five main parts.

  1. The topmost part is the protective layer.
  2. Second down is the decorative layer.
  3. Followed by a high-density fiberboard to offer impact resistance.
  4. The fourth layer is a sheet of melamine resin which give another stability structure.
  5. The final layer is underlayment. This is helpful in absorbing any imperfections in the sub-flooring.
